Wheel wedge
Many companies use wheel wedges to fix the position of lorries on ramps for industrial and transport safety. These wheel wedges are fitted with sensors which only release a gate or loading ramp when they detect the presence of a lorry tyre. Loading and unloading without wheel wedges involves risks which cannot be reliably prevented. On ground which is even slightly sloping, lorries not using their parking brake will roll forwards. Between the loading platform and the lorry a space then opens up. Movement of the forklift inside the lorry (especially braking on entering and leaving) can cause the lorry to leave its safe docking position. The lorry driver might move the lorry forwards in order to close the tailboard and/or doors. A forklift driver on slippery industrial flooring can fail to brake in time, leading the forklift to fall off the ramp.
Specification
When cabled wheel wedges are used in this rough environment, the cables often become damaged, leading to malfunctions. This in turn leads to longer loading times because a defective loading bay cannot be used. Wheel wedges with wireless sensors or wireless position switches reduce the risk of downtimes, being robust and shock-resistant.
Realisation
A series RF 95 or RF 98 wireless position switch is integrated in the wheel wedge. As soon as the wheel wedge comes up against a lorry tyre, the plunger on the switch is actuated and the switch transmits a release signal to the gate or loading ramp. When the wedge is removed, the switch is actuated again and sends the signal “wheel/lorry not in place” to the control room.
Customer benefit
This radio-controlled wheel wedge provides a very robust, functional solution to safety on the ramp, featuring high availability and additional versatility. Several wedges can also be placed on one ramp without any problems occurring. Assignation between wedge or wireless switch and the corresponding receiver takes place in a few simple steps during the initial operation using the teach-in procedure.
