Foot switches for laser devices

Not only the IEC 60601-1, but also the IEC 60601-2-22 must be observed by foot-operated control devices for diagnostic and therapeutical laser devices. This standard demands, for example, high mechanical stability. It requires protection against unintentional actuation and prescribes specific actuating forces. Besides this, certain protection classes – depending on the application in question – are determined according to IEC 60529. A mainly redundant design of the switching elements, as well as details concerning the cable and its entry at the foot-operated control device, also belong to the requirements. At work in the operating theatre and when controlling therapeutical and diagnostic laser devices, a non-tiring work environment is very important.
