sWave.NET® - Intelligent wireless sensor networks for logistics and industry

The future is networked

With sWave.NET®, steute presents the next logical step in the integration of switchgear in the industrial data landscape. Customised network solutions, with their own application servers and proprietary interfaces to company IT structures, provide new possibilities for information and data exchange extending beyond individual planes - within a variety of different branches and applications.

Ready for industry 4.0

Also and especially in production environments designed according to the principles of Industry 4.0, sWave.NET® provides new possibilities. A continuous flow of information is a key prerequisite for the cost-effective, (partly) automated manufacturing of complex products in small quantities.

From sensor to network

sWave.NET® is the new wireless solution for complex systems and networks. This wireless standard is restricted to irregular transfer of smaller data packets in conjunction with extremely low power consumption. The outdoor range of the wireless switch-sensor system is up to 700 m. During mobile machine use, the maximum reliable range of the network is approx. 50 m, taking into account potential reflections from metallic parts, as well as interference from other systems.

The sWave.NET® driver software represents the interface between the customised application and the sWave.NET® hardware. Administration of the entire wireless system takes place in this plane. Access points can be configured at the user interface (Web-UI). The user software therefore does not have to handle any administration in the sWave.NET® system at all. The only task comprises assigning switching commands to an ID and then conveying these to the driver software, as well as evaluating keystrokes as they occur.

5 steps to the network

  1. Wide range of switchgear
In addition to electromechanical wireless switching devices (position switches, foot switches, pull wire switches...), wireless sensors (e.g. magnetic sensor) and wireless control systems can also be integrated in sWave.NET® networks.
  2. Tried-and-tested wireless standard
sWave.NET® uses an exceptionally stable and yet low-energy wireless protocol within the universally available 868/915/922 MHz waveband, transmitting to each receiver unit with high reliability and high quality.
  3. The »backbone« of the network: access points
Access points are installed across the transmission range and communicate with the wireless switchgear. Each access point can receive signals from up to 100 wireless switches. When a switching device sends out a signal, the order of the access points it reaches is fixed. If transmission fails at the first access point, the second is addressed, and so on. This guarantees very high transmission reliability.
  4. Integrated communication to the very top
The application server houses a database, provided by steute, which collects all information at field level before transferring it, either directly or via middleware, to the customer IT platform (enterprise resource planning/ERP, production data acquisition/PDA, condition monitoring system/CMS, inventory management system/IMS....), if required also via Web services to multiple-site IT systems. This guarantees continuous communication from the individual switching device to the top of the company IT hierarchy.
  5. Simple configuration
The sWave.NET® network can easily be configured via a Web server to meet different requirements. Changes in the network can also be realised in the same way. In addition, the database can be adapted to meet individual customer needs and wishes.
