Position and conveyed material monitoring on lifting tables and turntables

In automated production the position of both conveyed material and conveying equipment has to be monitored in numerous different locations. When switchgear is mounted on fixed equipment, cabled switches and sensors are usually used. If mounting is to take place on moving components such as lifting tables, turntables, travelling carriages, vertical transporters etc. however, then engineers should consider using wireless switchgear instead.

Specification

Wireless switches – such as electromechanical position switches or non-contact wireless sensors – have to function reliably even in the least favourable conditions found in industrial production (radiation, different wireless networks like WLAN).

Realisation

Users have a wide choice of wireless position switches using different wireless protocols. If safety standards do not have to be very high, use of self-sufficient switchgear with electrodynamic energy generators is recommended. If, on the other hand, very high availability and transmission reliability are required, battery-operated wireless switches which exchange bidirectional signals with the receiver unit and also transmit a regular presence signal are also available.

Customer benefit

Wireless technology saves installation expense and time, and removes the need for components which are subject to wear and tear, such as trailing cable installations. This is all the more advantageous the greater the distance between automation unit and control cabinet. There is also no risk of cables breaking.
